On October 5th, I went out to Yoichi to meet up with my friend for a casual lunch date! Apparently there’s this Thai cafe in town, and it’s pretty good, so I was down to hang out for some good food.
I arrived at 12:15, and we nmade our way to the resturant. Along the way, we passed over Yoichi bridge, which had a super gorgeous view. Autumn is finally upon us, with temperatures gradually dropping, but it was super sunny that day, making the weather feel warmer than it actually was. It was a really nice day. Almost too good.
The restaurant is located in this small, cute house, and run by a lady by herself. The menu, like the cafe, is also quite small, but I’m sure she’s perfected her recipes. I ordered the khao man gai. My friend ordered the green curry, and after we finished our mains, we weren’t super full, so we got the spring rolls to share. You can also customize if you want Jasmine or brown rice, vegetarian option, and spiciness levels! The two spring roll choices of the day were either steamed chicken with lettuce or cream cheese with red bell pepper pickles. Cream cheese was a bit odd, so we opted for the chicken.
The food was really good! I liked my dish, as the chicken was most and tender, and came with this yummy sesame sauce. The pickles were fresh, and the Jasmine rice is a nice change from the usual Japanese rice. The spring roll chicken was also super tender! It really does need the sweet chili sauce though, because without it, the roll itself doesn’t have much flavor.
We could both use some dessert after lunch, and we made our way over to Yoichi station to check out the local goods. My friend bought an apple ramune (it was really good!), and the gelato case called out to me. Of course, I had to get the apple juice ice cream. This one specifically is made with the Ringo no Hoppe (Apple Cheeks) juice that’s well-known around here. I was thinking about getting the station’s apple pie to take home, but I ended up not having time before getting on the bus. Oops.
The gelato was super good! It was milky, yet had a strong apple juice flavor at the same time. The gelato wasn’t super stiff or thick, and had a bit of a runny texture. Not that it was melting or anything, but it was softer than soft serve.
We went back to my friend’s house to chill for a bit. Time flew by before we knew it, and I decided to go home while it was still light outside. I got on the 4:45 bus to go home!
