Sapporo Diaires: Immigration Bureau Fails, Eating and Shopping Around

Sanrio characters Anniversary Market

On June 9th, I went out to Sapporo! It was a Monday that I didn’t have work, so my grand plan was to go to the Sapporo Immigration Bureau to take care of some stuff, since they only open on weekdays (and well, I usually I have work). The rest of the day was eating and shopping around.

After getting off the bus around 10, luckily the building was right next to the bus stop. They make you sign in with your name and entry time, and give you a numbered badge to wear while in the building. At the immigration bureau, I took a number, and waited 10 parties, around 45 minutes.

Long story short: I wasted my time going. My plan that I had researched and contacted the Foreign Resident Support Center about was not possible according to the officer that I saw. I was pretty bummed, but really thankful for the guy. He was super nice about the whole thing, kept going back and forth to check on technicalities for me, and even told me not to apologize for any of it. Anyway, I was still a little devastated for my time that day, an my upcoming travel plans.

I hadn’t eaten anything yet, so I went to go eat lunch. I met up with my boyfriend at his favorite ramen shop, as their limited edition ramen at the moment was a mazesoba-style tonkotsu ramen. Sounded pretty good, and I’m a sucker for limited-time items. It was like a deconstructed, dry tonkotsu ramen, except it contained some chili flakes and spinach, with no wood ear mushrooms. For the rest of the similar toppings, were green onion, seaweed, sliced chashu, bamboo, and bean sprouts. It was topped with some sort of pork fat, with a bit of sauce on the bottom. The noodles were slightly thick, flat noodles.

It was super yummy, and a really interesting take on tonkotsu ramen. The sauce was like eating a concentrated tonkotsu soup broth, and the chewy noodles and ingredients soaked it up nicely. Despite the chili flakes on top, it wasn’t spicy at all, and added a nice flavor. Chashu was uber tender and fall apart.

While waiting for the parfait place I wanted to go at 3 to open up, I headed to Daimaru. I usually get my boba for the bus ride home, but since I was in the area already, I decided to get my drink now, and get a different drink for my bus ride. The Alley released a new seasonal drink, and I was excited to try it! Read about my boba here!

Then I made my way up to the 7th floor. There was a Sanrio characters Anniversary Market happening, and I can’t pass up a Sanrio popup…In particular, the event exclusive items were mostly this playing cards-themed Kuromi and My Melody series, and a whimsical Little Twin Stars series. I spent some money, oops.

With my Daimaru business out of the way, I headed back down to the Susukino area to hang out until my parfait place of choice opened for the day. On the way, I stopped by Fuwamochi Tei in Mitsukoshi and got some flavored bagels. Five actually. They’re no normal American bagels, but more soft and fluffy breads with really interesting flavors and fillings.

After window shopping around Cocono a bit, a walked over to Sinner, hoping to get their matcha sakura parfait that I saw just released. Unfortunately, when they opened at 3pm and set up their sign boards, the one parfait I wanted was swapped out for a different seasonal…I swear just a few days ago there were pictures indicating it was available.

As a back up option, I actually passed by a new evening parfait place earlier, and now with nothing to do, it was a good opportunity to go try it out! It’s quite a cute establishment, with some very interesting artwork to say the least. I opted for the Japanese-style Parfait, which has matcha salt, whipped cream, sweet potato pound cake, crumble, boiled red beans, grilled honey shiratama, sweet potato compote, pistachio pannacotta, and a financier on the side. I did not expect the financier to be this tiny, let alone the gold flakes on top!

It’s a small, but mighty parfait. The matcha was very nice and not too bitter, the cake was most and buttery, and the crumble was cruncy. The panna cotta on the bottome was silky smooth, and my favorite part was the grilled mochi balls. Financiers are usually bigger and softer, but this one was tiny. crispy and warm, which was actually a nice change I think. I’m a big crispy girlie.

After my parfait, I headed to Penguin Bakery to check out their selection and buy something to eat on the way home. I was originally only going for the chicken sandwich, but a new item caught my eye…This giant pizza baguette. I had to get it. It’s essentially half of a long baguette with bacon, onion, and of course, cheese. Along with it, I bought the steamed chicken burdock root salad sandwich, with also has carrots and lettuce.

I ate my sandwich on the bus ride home. It was pretty good! I’d say if you’re a fan of the sesame dressing on salads or burdock root salad, that’s definitely the main flavor profile. Chicken was soft and tender. Not too much bread to filling ratio. Pizza baguette was good too, though pretty much what it looks like. Definitely a lot better after a few minutes in the toaster. Makes for a good breakfast!

Since I had my boba earlier in the day, I decided I would get the newest Starbucks frappucino as my drink to-go. As of May 28th, the newest frappucino is the Oriental Mango & Tea Frappucino. It’s made by blending mango chunks, jasmine tea, soy milk, and topped with whipped cream and mango sauce.

Honestly, highly recommend. It was a super yummy drink, and I also really like mango, so it was right up my alley. Creamy, mango-y, all around very good.

Akarenga Terrace is doing their annual flower carpet again, and I passed this on the way to my bus stop.

And I got on the bus at 5 to go home!
